Bengaluru-based Two Former Bankers Built WhatsLoan Platform, Helping 5 Lakh+ Farmers Across 6 States Access Faster Crop Loans

For millions of farmers across India, getting an agricultural loan has traditionally involved weeks of bureaucratic friction. To obtain a basic seed financing request, the farmers had to run from pillar to post, submit a pile of documents, wait for 6 to 8 weeks and incur friction costs of 5–10% of the loan amount, apart from losing a day’s wages away from the fields.

Career bankers, Timmana Gouda (ex-Axis Bank) and Vidhya TG (ex-HDFC Bank and Citi) didn’t accept this inefficiency as “just the way things are” and co-founded WhatsLoan (WTSLN Fintech Pvt. Ltd.) to transform the way rural Bharat accesses credit.

WhatsLoan has combined land records, satellite data and digital identity tools to cut loan turnaround times from months to instant approvals for small and marginal farmers across India.

Bengaluru-based agri-fintech platform WhatsLoan has successfully served more than 5,00,000 small and marginal farmers so far, across 6 states, totalling 1.2 million rural and low income groups customer over last 5 years,  transforming the distribution of Kisan Credit Card (KCC) loans and crop credit in India.

This is an important milestone in India’s growing Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) ecosystem and demonstrates how digital land integration and live data pipelines can eliminate friction for low-income households. WhatsLoan was founded by veteran banker Timmana Gouda D and co-founder Vidhya TG in response to a deep-rooted structural challenge in India’s, rural economy: high cost, heavy paper work and months-long delay in getting agricultural credit.

The Roots of Farming Meets Modern DPI:

Timmana, being the son of a farmer, was well aware of the agricultural cycle in the countryside. His 20-year banking career at Axis Bank and other institutions then revealed how traditional underwriting systems failed rural borrowers.

Farmers often faced wrong rejections, high access costs of up to 10% and long turnaround times (TATs) of weeks or months just to get simple crop loans.

WhatsLoan was born out of a simple question:

If DPI could instantly verify identities and move money, why shouldn’t it also grant farmers instant credit?

WhatsLoan has built a niche digital lending platform based on the Loan-as-a-Service (LaaS) model to address this by connecting four critical data vectors:

  1. Personal Digital Identities (through Aadhaar and DigiLocker)
  2. Digital Land Records & AgriStack (through RBI’s Unified Lending Interface – ULI)
  3. Crop & Satellite Analytics (through Agri DSS)

Core Banking System:

This integration will help Regional Rural Banks (Grameena Banks), PSU Banks, Agri-techs and Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) to underwrite and disburse loans with near to zero friction costs.

Features & Highlights:

Digital Financial Identity (DFID): Farmers and rural borrowers can self-qualify easily for as low as Rupees 1/day.Profitable Growth and Real World Impact

Fast Turnaround : Loan processing time is reduced from 6-8 weeks to 3-5 minutes.

Cost Reduction: 90% reduction in origination and processing cost per Kisan Credit Card.
