Floriculture and Global Exports Boost Income of 1,650 Farmers in Odisha’s Sabujasanatanpali FPC

Sabujasanatanpali Farmers Producer Company Limited (SSFPCL) is a farmer’s led innovative enterprise located at Jujomora Block, Sambalpur District, Odisha. The organization was founded in August 2021 from a mission of transforming rural communities from subsistence farming to organized, market-oriented agribusiness under the leadership of Managing Director Mr. Manbodh Barik. With a climate-resilient agriculture model, Today SSFPCL leads the way which helps smallholder farmers to increase their production, adopt the innovation and technologies and have entry to the global markets.

Why Sambalpur needed a Agricultural Revolution?

By seeing the daily struggles of the local farmers, SSFPCL came into existence and in past many years, Sambalpur agriculture farmers produces primarily traditional paddy cultivation.

Despite hard work, poor fragmented landholdings and One local farmer, Mr Manbodh Barik, was visionary enough to know that to survive they needed to work together and grow different crops. He began experimenting with other crops and succeeded in introducing marigold farming and drip irrigation which eventually led to a conscious transition to high-value floriculture in his village. Creating the Ecosystem and Adopting AgTech To formalize this transformation, SSFPCL was developed on the basis of sustainable technology and strategic institutional partnerships.

The Board of Directors – Birupakshya Pradhan, Kailash Pradhan, Nirmal Pradhan, Kumari Padhan, Shankhajini Pradhan, Lingaraj Sahu, Suraj Pradhan, Shyamlal Sahu and Sanjay Badhai – provides strategic direction, leadership and supervision to the organization.

The dedicated staff team is led by CEO Prachi Patel and Project Coordinator Babulal Suna.

Major milestone of FPO Manbodh Barik:

The major milestone was the launch of a polyhouse for floriculture under controlled environment that allows the farmers to safely cultivate exotic flowers such as eustoma all thru the year.

SSFPCL technology and initiatives are designed to address critical rural farming crises:

  1. Climate Risk Reduction: Adoption of nature-based farming and protective polyhouses to prevent erratic weather conditions from impacting high-value crops.
  2. Helping Women Empowernment: Nearly 45% of the 1,650 shareholders, Women farmers have taken a charge of digital resources and agribusiness operations.
  3. Connecting Operations with modernization: Adapting mobile-based farm management apps and digital traceability platforms to help the farmers and improved supply chain logistics and precision farming.
  4. Results and Validation: To ensure long-term sustainability, SSFPCL consciously invested its resources in value chain integration and capacity building at the grassroots level.
    Its results over the first four years are turning the local economy around.

Record-breaking Growth of Revenue:

In 2021-2022 the turnover of the company was nearly 2.56 lakh but then, with the help of their hardwork, determination and dedication the turnover has reached to 80.72 lakhs in 2024-25.

Crop Diversification: Member farmers have successfully expanded into over 14 commercial commodities such as broccoli, groundnut, premium mangoes and mushrooms.

Freedom from trap of the Market: By establishing direct linkages with institutional buyers like Reliance Fresh, the FPC and By collectively marketing over 400 tons of produce and reduced the heavy dependence on local middlemen.

Global Exports & Road Ahead:

SSFPCL has now firmly established itself on the international map. In a district first, the FPC has successfully exported 5 tons of premium mangoes to Italy, Dubai and England, showing the global competitiveness of Odisha’s smallholder farmers.

In the future, SSFPCL plans to increase its involvement in the agribusiness sector, by setting up a rice processing unit, an oil extraction unit and a mechanized agro-service center to further increase value addition in the post-harvest stage.
