Khargone, in the fertile agricultural region of Madhya Pradesh, has traditionally been known for its rich production of spices, pulses and grains. However, farmers have often faced challenges in accessing the right markets and capturing greater value from their produce. To change this story, NimadFresh Krushi Vikas Farmer Producer Company Limited was incorporated in 2023.
With the support of NABARD, NimadFresh began its transformational journey and was recognized under the Government of India’s Central Sector Scheme for the “Formation and Promotion of 10,000 FPOs.” Guided by a dedicated five-member Board of Directors, the FPO set out to build a stronger, market-linked and farmer-first agricultural ecosystem.
Today, NimadFresh has a strong base of over 500 core farmers and a specialized network of more than 7,000 farmers associated with premium chilli cultivation. Its growing agricultural portfolio includes red chilli, turmeric, ginger, Kabuli chana, moong and other spices, pulses, grains and fresh produce.
From Market Barriers to Direct Market Linkages
When NimadFresh started, market linkage was one of the biggest challenges. Farmers were producing quality crops, but reaching the right buyers while protecting their margins remained difficult.
Instead of waiting for opportunities to reach the farm gate, NimadFresh took a proactive approach by taking farmers’ produce directly to potential buyers and participating actively in major agricultural exhibitions in India and abroad. This helped showcase the quality of its produce, reduce dependence on unnecessary intermediaries and establish direct channels with aggregators, traders and international export buyers.
The organization is now focused on building complete value chains—from farmer production and aggregation to quality management, processing, market linkage and exports.
IPM, Organic Production & Farmer Cluster Development
NimadFresh is working closely with its farmer network to develop quality-focused and sustainable production systems for high-value crops and spices. A major focus is on Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and Organic production practices.
The current farmer-focused crop portfolio includes red chilli, turmeric, ginger, Kabuli chana and moong, with emphasis on producing consistent, traceable and market-oriented quality.
Cluster development is a key part of this strategy. NimadFresh is working on dedicated chilli clusters with farmers under IPM practices, creating a more organized production base with common protocols, better farm-level practices, traceability and stronger market linkages.
The organization has also entered into an MOU with World Vegetable Center for collaboration related to chilli cluster development under IPM practices. In addition, NimadFresh is building strategic partnerships and MOUs with other organizations to strengthen farmer services, production systems, market access and value-chain development.
GI Recognition for Khargone Lal Mirch
A landmark milestone in NimadFresh’s journey is the Geographical Indication (GI) recognition of “Khargone Lal Mirch.” The GI recognition strengthens the identity and authenticity of Khargone’s distinctive red chilli and creates an important platform for branding, market access, traceability and better value realization for farmers.
For NimadFresh, the GI milestone is more than a certification—it represents an opportunity to build a differentiated regional chilli brand and connect the unique agricultural identity of Khargone with national and international markets.
National Recognition & Institutional Pride
NimadFresh’s journey has also received recognition at the national level, including an invitation to a program attended by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. This recognition reflects the growing visibility of NimadFresh’s work with farmers and its contribution to strengthening farmer-led agribusiness.
The organization continues to combine grassroots farmer engagement with modern market linkages, quality systems, sustainable production and value addition.
Advanced Spices Processing & Value Addition
NimadFresh is now taking the next major step in its growth journey by moving further up the value chain. A modern spices powder processing unit is planned to commence operations in December, equipped with advanced processing machinery.
The facility will strengthen NimadFresh’s capabilities in processing, value addition, quality control, product standardization and market-ready packaging across its spices portfolio. This transition from primarily trading and market linkage towards processing and value addition is expected to create additional opportunities for farmer produce and improve the organization’s overall value-chain economics.
Financial Growth & the ₹50 Crore Vision
NimadFresh has demonstrated strong financial growth through direct sales to exporters and institutional buyers, supported by export channels. Within just a few years of incorporation, the FPO has crossed an estimated annual turnover of more than ₹18 crore.
With expanding farmer clusters, IPM and Organic production, GI recognition, strategic MOUs, stronger domestic and export market linkages and the upcoming advanced spices processing unit, NimadFresh is targeting a turnover of more than ₹50 crore in the current financial year.
This growth is designed not only to increase business scale, but also to create stronger market access, greater value addition, improved farmgate realization and more sustainable livelihoods for farmer members.
Looking Forward
At the heart of NimadFresh is a clear and consistent commitment:
“NimadFresh is growing consistently with commitment, farmer-first values and a vision to take local farm produce to trusted global markets.”
Today, NimadFresh FPO demonstrates how traditional farming knowledge, farmer clusters, IPM and Organic production, GI recognition, strategic partnerships, modern processing and global market ambition can come together to transform local agriculture into a competitive, scalable and sustainable enterprise.
